Bruce's Story

Bruce Lee Vander Ploeg was born in Oskaloosa on March 2, 1950, and died at the age of 65 on Sept. 13, 2015, with his family by his side. He was predeceased by his father, John (Bud) Vander Ploeg of Pella. He is survived by his mother Harriet (Sheibley) Vander Ploeg, his loving and devoted wife of 26 years Sharon (Begin) Vander Ploeg, siblings Carol (Rich) Van Slooten, Michael (Donnamae) Vander Ploeg, Gail (Michael) De Young, Beth Vander Ploeg, Paul (Karol) Vander Ploeg, Julie (Mark) Mihevc, and many nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews. Bruce proudly served his country as a soldier for the US Army in Viet Nam. He enjoyed playing golf with his family, talking politics with anyone, and reading books to his nieces and nephews. Services will be held Thursday, 10:30 a.m. at 1st Christian Reformed Church, Pella. Having been a veteran of foreign war, it was important to Bruce that today's soldiers receive the help they need.
