Evelyn made profession of her faith as a young girl at the First Reformed Church in Pella. She was united in marriage with Arie B. Beyer, who was from Mitchellville, Iowa, on March 7, 1946, in her parents farmhouse. Evelyn sewed her own wedding dress. Four children were born to this union: Ilene Louise, Glen Dean, Kevin Lee, and Harvey Gene. Arie and Evelyn farmed in the Monroe, Leighton, and Otley, Iowa areas until retiring in 1985 when they moved into Pella where they made their home at 1108 Houston Avenue.
Evelyn and Arie enjoyed traveling to many places in the United States and Europe with family and friends. They had a wonderful life together for 52 years and Arie passed away on January 28, 1998, at the age of 77 years. In February, 2015, Evelyn moved to the Oskaloosa Care Center in Oskaloosa, Iowa and in July 2015, she became a resident at The Cottages in Pella. Since April, 2017, she hade been a resident at Jefferson Place in Pella.

(Kevin) and Kathy (Mohr) Beyer of Ankeny, Iowa; Kyle Beyer, Kayla Beyer
Harvey and Teresa (Willemsen) Beyer of Otley, Iowa; Brett and Amber Beyer of Pella, Iowa, Arie, Paige Beyer of Otley, Iowa.
Of her original family Evelyn leaves her youngest sibling, her sister, Edith (Irvin) Huyser of Pella, a sister-in-law, Berdena (John) Beyer of Pleasantville, Iowa; and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband, Arie; her son Kevin Beyer on April 21, 2016, a great-granddaughter, Johanna Rose Beyer on August 30, 2018; her parents, John and Jeanette Mathes; her siblings and their spouses: Valentine and Jennie Mathes, Sarah Mathes, William and Beulah Mathes, Agnes Mathes, Esther and Herman Slykhuis, Ervin and Johanna Mathes, Mabel and Edward De Vries, Harold and Pauline Mathes; her brother-in-law, Irvin Huyser; her parents-in-law, Albert and Aartje (Van Maanen) Beyer and brother-in-law, John Beyer.
Evelyn was a faithful member of the Otley Reformed Church in Otley where she had been very active in their many organizations. She spent 20 years volunteering at Work of Our Hands and at the Central Park windmill in Pella. Evelyn sewed many quilts for her family and "My Brother's Keeper's" quilting group and while residing at The Cottages she crocheted blocks for a women's home. Evelyn enjoyed her home and baking bread and pies.
Memorials may be given to the Otley Reformed Church to be designated for the Otley Women's Sewing Club. Funeral services were held on Monday, January 21, at the Van Dyk - Duven Funeral Home.
