Henry Allen Bokhoven was a son of Anthony and Carolyn (Stursma) Bokhoven. He was born on September 10, 1947, in Oskaloosa, Iowa. Henry attended the Peoria Christian School at Peoria, Iowa, and finally completed high school at Pella Christian High School in Pella, Iowa in 1965.
Following high school he was employed at the Rolscreen Company and at Lee's Variety Store in Pella where Hank, as he was sometimes known, was an ace gift wrapper. On October 18, 1968, after gaining the required minimum weight, he enlisted in the United States Army. He served during the Vietnam War with the Army Infantry and was honorably discharged on October 18, 1970.
On December 30, 1971, he and Karen Ann Dykstra were united in marriage at the Trinity Reformed Church in Pella. To this union two children were born: Jacqueline Kay and Jeffrey Allen. Hank then became an owner of Tony's Auto Parts in Pella. He remained in the business for over 40 years and during the early years he was involved in drag racing, driving the Jolly Green Machine and the Orange Falcon. He enjoyed hunting deer (even if it might be illegal) and coyote. He was passionate about gardening and yard work and enjoyed his Sunday morning golf outings. During his lifetime he helped out a lot of people and as an example had been a member of the Pella Police Reserves.
For the past three years Henry had encountered various health issues and passed away early Tuesday morning, August 2, 2016, at the Hospice of Pella Comfort House in Pella at the age of 68 years. Henry is survived by his wife, Karen; their two children and their families of Pella: Jacque and Russ Zondervan and their two children, Justin and Kara; Jeffrey and Stacia Bokhoven and their four children: Dakotah Bokhoven, Adam Hoeflick, Jr., Lindy Bokhoven, and Aidan Hoeflick. Henry leaves his two brothers and their wives: Robert and Marilyn Bokhoven, David and Sherry Bokhoven, and his sister, Carol, and her husband, Denny Van Andel all of Pella; a sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Carolyn and John Burke of Yulle, California; and several nephews and nieces. Henry was preceded in death by his parents, Tony and Carolyn Bokhoven; his father-in-law, Ebern Dykstra, and his mother-in-law, Harriet (Meinders) Dykstra; and an Aunt Della Mae Dykstra.
Henry was an active member of the Pella Golf & Country Club, was a member of the Van Veen- Van Hemert American Legion Post No. 89 of Pella, and the Trinity Reformed Church in Pella, Iowa. Henry was proud of the achievements of his children and grandchildren and will be remembered for his loyalty to his family and many friends. Funeral services were held on Friday, August 5, at the Trinity Reformed Church in Pella. Van Dyk - Duven Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
