Janice Vander Wal

Events

Janice Ann Vander Wal was born November 24, 1948, to Elmer and Emma (Rempe) Kool, in Oskaloosa, Iowa.
Jan attended school at Valley, Pleasant View, Lincoln Elementary, Pella Middle School and was a 1967 graduate of Pella Public High School.
On November 18, 1969, she was united in marriage to John Keith Vander Wal, in Pella. They were blessed with two children: Brian John and Jennifer Lynn. They made their home on the family farm near Pella. Throughout her career, Jan worked for Rolscreen, picked apples and made pies for Pella Nursery, and Heritage Lace, all while working on the farm. Jan had a love for animals, crafting, sewing, quilting, gardening and flowers, and baking for family and friends. She was a 4-H leader, Calvinette leader, and a Sunday school teacher. She made confession of faith at Second Christian Reformed Church and later became a member of the First Christian Reformed Church, where she donated her time for the Mission and Evangelism Committee and the Happy Quilters. Jan loved spending time with her family on the farm, where she resided for 49 years, and never missed her grandkids' events.
Those left to cherish her memory are her children and their families: Brian and Gina Vander Wal of Leighton, and Jennifer and Joe Orton of Lorimor, and five grandchildren. She is also survived by her brother Larry and Ella Kool of Pella, sister-in-law Jan and Marion Van Soelen of Hull, Iowa, brother-in-law Ken and Cindy Vander Wal of Oak Brook, Illinois, and many nieces and nephews.
Jan was preceded in death by her husband Keith, her parents, Elmer and Emma Kool and her parents-in-law Cornie and Antoinette Vander Wal.
Funeral services were held on March 16, 2019. Memorials may be given to the Pella Christian High School. The Garden Chapel Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
