Jan Veenstra was born on Feb. 14, 1936, in Hallum, the province of Friesland, the Netherlands, to Jim (Ynto) and Wilma (Wopkje Van Gunst) Veenstra. In May of 1952, he immigrated to the United States of America and settled near Lynnville. On Dec. 28, 1956, he married Jennie De Kock at Otley. To this union two children were born, Kathy Sue and Kevin John. From then on, John and Jennie lived in and around Pella. He was employed at Van Gorp Manufacturing for approximately 20 years. Following that, he started Precision Pulley in Pella with four other partners. After five successful years in that industry, three of the original partners purchased Schiebout Tire Company. John enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren and extensive traveling, especially his trips to the Netherlands.
