Marie De Kruyff
She attended Pella High School at Pella, Iowa and was employed at the Rolscreen Company in Pella. While working there she was introduced to Peter R. De Kruyff, Jr., who was also working there.
On June 29, 1974, Marie and Peter were united in marriage and Peter adopted her daughter, Kimberly Sue, who later passed away at the age of 2 1/2 years. Their son, Thomas Jay was born September 14, 1975, and their daughter, Tammy Rae was born September 18, 1978.
Marie worked at the Heritage Lace, Pella Golf and Country Club and Royal Amsterdam Hotel. Marie and Peter enjoyed bowling together in mixed league.
Most importantly, Peter and Marie loved the Lord. They loved listening to Christian music, most especially the Gaithers. Her grandchildren were her pride and joy which she cared for over the last ten years. They provided her fulfillment after Peter's death. Peter passed away on April 13, 2017, at the age of 71 years. Marie then moved into the Lindview Apartments in Pella.
She was diagnosed with breast cancer 7 years ago and had successful surgery to remove her tumor. In February of 2018, it was found again this time in her colon and she underwent surgery to remove it once again. Marie battled courageously but succumbed to this and passed away on February 9. 2019, at the Hospice of Pella Comfort House at the age of 68.
Those left to cherish her memory are her two children: Thomas Jay De Kruyff and his wife, Teresa, of Altoona, Iowa, Tammy Rae Van Gorp and Scott Thede of Pella and her four children: Brendan, Austin, Macy and Landon, her mother, Jessie Van De Kieft of Oskaloosa; three sisters, Judy and Ashok Nanda of Bonita Springs, Florida, Sharon and Larry Ryerson of Cumming, Georgia, and Margaret (her twin sister) Yoakum of Red Oak, Iowa.
Of Peter's family she leaves, Marilyn (Bill) De Kruyff of Kanawha, Iowa, Lila (James H.) De Kruyff of Otley, Judith (Paul De Kruyff) and her husband, Jack Penman of Runnells, Iowa, Cornie W. (Helen De Kruyff) Den Hartog of Pella; as well as many cherished nieces and nephews.
Marie was preceded in death by a daughter, Kimberly Sue De Kruyff; her father, Raymond H. Van De Kieft, two brothers, Raymond Jr. and Thomas Maurice Van De Kieft. Family was Marie and Peter's most important focus and enjoyment in life.
Funeral services were held on Wednesday, February 13, at the Otley Reformed Church. Memorials may be given to the Hospice of Pella Comfort House. Van Dyk - Duven Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
