Marjorie's Story

Marjorie M. Sneller, 92, of Jefferson City, was promoted to glory surrounded by her family on Monday, Sept. 21, 2015, at SSM Health-St. Mary’s Hospital. She was born Nov. 7, 1922, in Killduff, Iowa, a daughter of the late Melis and Marie (Van Gilst) Otten. She was a 1941 graduate of Sully High School in Sully, Iowa. On Sept. 30, 1942, Marjorie was united in marriage in Lancaster, Mo., to Nickolas W. Sneller, who preceded her in death on May 16, 2000. Marjorie was store manager and operated the Salvation Army Thrift Stores in Waterloo,and Jefferson City, Mo., from 1964 – 1979. She was also a clerk for Woolworth’s and Kress’s. Marjorie attended the First Church of God in Jefferson City, and was a volunteer at the Salvation Army. She enjoyed camping, traveling, sewing, quilting, embroidery, solving crossword puzzles, and playing the piano. She also loved to write and read. She was a NASCAR Fan, especially for her two favorite drivers Carl Edwards and Kasey Kahne; and was an avid St. Louis Cardinal fan and Jay’s football fan. Most of all, Marjorie loved her family and it was spending time with all of her children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and great-great grandchildren that brought her the most joy. Marjorie is survived by ten children: Norman W. Sneller (Connie) of Oskaloosa; Ronald D. Sneller (Cecelia) of Pella; Roger E. Sneller (Linda) of Jefferson City; Robert R. Sneller (Sandy) of Holts Summit; Stanley C. Sneller (Janice) of Holts Summit; S. Paul Sneller (Janice) of Jefferson City; Mark G. Sneller (Penny) of Holts Summit; Kevin G. Sneller (Penni) of Holts Summit; Juanita L. Legreid (Kevin) of Holts Summit; and Judith L. White (Gary) of Jefferson City; one sister: Joyce Ritter of Pella; 30 grandchildren, four step-grandchildren, 50 great-grandchildren, 13 step great-grandchildren, seven great-great grandchildren, four step great-great grandchildren; one special nephew: Larry Sneller (Sue) of Jefferson City; and numerous other nieces, nephews and extended family. She was also preceded in death by three grandsons, three great-grandchildren, and one sister: Geraldine Septer. Friends were received from 4-7 p.m. Friday, Sept. 25, 2015, at the Houser-Millard Funeral Home, and from 1-2 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 26, 2015, at the First Church of God in Jefferson City. Funeral Services were held at 2 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 26, 2015, at the First Church of God, 1614 Southwest Blvd. in Jefferson City, with Pastor Joe Gregory officiating.
