Martin Tod Hewitt, age 47, went home to see his Lord on Sunday, April 3, 2016, surrounded by his loving family. After a long battle with cancer, Tod now walks pain free in Heaven’s glory. Funeral services were held on Wednesday, April 6, 2016, at 10 a.m. at the First Baptist Church in Monroe. Burial followed at Silent City Cemetery. Visitation took place on Tuesday, April 5, 2016, from 3-7 p.m. at the First Baptist Church in Monroe. The family greeted friends from 5-7 p.m. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to Tod’s family to be used towards his children’s future education. Condolences may be left for the family at www.coburnfuneralhomes.com. The son of Charles Paul and Kathryn Ruth (Dickerson) Hewitt, Tod was born on July 2, 1968, in Newton. He graduated from Monroe High School in 1986 and worked at Maytag and then Trinity Structural Towers in Newton. Tod was united in marriage to Carmen Marie Provenzano in Knoxville. Though they settled in Pella, Tod remained very close to his parents. An avid outdoorsman, he passed his love for nature on to his children and nieces and nephews. They enjoyed hunting, fishing, four wheeling, dirt biking, camping and hunting for mushrooms. Tod’s pride and joy was his family; his wife, Carmen and their two children, Alexis Marie and Avery Charles; his parents, Charles and Kathy Hewitt; sisters, Paula (Gale) Perrin and Gloria (Eric) Reed; several nieces and nephews and many friends. He preceded in death by his maternal and paternal grandparents and 20 aunts and uncles.
