On June 2, 1933, James Norman Chrisman was born at home on the family farm in Knoxville, Iowa, to James Francis and Dorothy (Harding) Chrisman. He graduated from Knoxville High School in 1951, and joined the U.S. Army in February 1952 serving at the end of the Korean War and spending 18 months in Okinawa.
Norman returned to the family farm where he was a good "stockman" raising hogs and cattle and milking cows for many years.

On October 6, 1963, Norman was joined in marriage to Sandra Sue Brooks at the First United Methodist Church. They were blessed with three children: James Phillip, James Kent, and Connie Sue Anne.
Norman was a 5th generation Chrisman family farmer. He was a mentor to many and gave several young men an opportunity to work. He enjoyed traveling and was especially fond of his time spent in Key West, Florida, and the fun times spent there with family and friends.
He served on the board of the Marion County Farm Bureau, was a member of the Marion County Pork Producers, a previous president of the Marion County Cattleman's Association, a Soil Conservation Commissioner, and belonged to the American Legion.
Norman is survived by his wife of 55 years, Sandra (Brooks) Chrisman, his sons, James Phillip (Connie) Chrisman, James Kent (Lori) Chrisman, and his daughter, Connie Sue Anne (Jason) Clark as well as seven grandchildren: James Blaine Chrisman, James Ross Chrisman, Brooke Taylor Chrisman, Madison Sue Chrisman, Paige Ashlynn Chrisman, Gabriel Christian Clark, and Landen Craig Clark. He was a very loving and caring husband, father, and grandfather.

Plant a tree: How does it work

When your purchase is complete, a post will be made on the tribute wall of the deceased signifying the planting of a memorial tree.

An official certificate recognizing your purchase will be included with your email receipt. You can then forward the email to the family or print it and give it to them personally.

After an order is placed, our forestry partners will plant the tree in the area of greatest need (nearest the funeral home), according to the planting schedule for the year.

Due to seasonal conditions, the tree planting takes place during the spring and summer.
